Bergquist Employee Takes Strides Against ALS in 2024 Orlando Walk

Bergquist’s Telemetry Sales Director Mike Vigliotti will walk in the 2024 Orlando Walk to Defeat ALS this coming March to fundraise and spread awareness in the fight for a cure for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), a progressive and fatal neuromuscular disease that gradually deprives individuals of the ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. Having lived with ALS for the past eight and a half years, Vigliotti has a deep connection to the ALS Foundation’s mission and a passion for raising awareness for the devastating disease.

Following a typical ALS diagnosis, individuals face an anticipated lifespan of just two to five years. Due to the slow onset of his particular condition, Vigliotti has chosen to become an advocate not only for himself but also for fellow ALS warriors whose progressive conditions make self-advocacy difficult. In addition to his fundraising efforts, Vigliotti actively engages with local and national government officials to champion the need for ALS treatments and trial drugs. On his ALS Association fundraising page, Vigliotti notes that “no cures or treatments have been very effective,” making ALS research all the more urgent.

Vigliotti’s employer, Bergquist, has been especially supportive of his ALS diagnosis and awareness initiatives. The propane supplier has fully supported and embraced the challenges posed by Vigliotti's condition, accommodating his needs in unique ways. To that end, Bergquist recently funded an eye-tracking device that allows Vigliotti to use his eyes to power his computer mouse, a crucial adaptation given his loss of grip strength and hand motor function. Commenting on Bergquist’s support, Vigliotti states, “I feel blessed that I still lead a fairly normal life. I still work full-time, for a great company that has stood behind me and helps with anything I need to make my job easier.”

To further bolster support for Vigliotti’s fight against ALS, Bergquist is encouraging others to join ‘Team Vigs’ on the Walk to Defeat ALS scheduled for March 16, 2024, at Lake Eola Park, 512 E. Washington St. in Orlando. Bergquist also urges direct donations to ‘Team Vigs’ through the ALS Association’s website to help the team reach its fundraising goal of $10,000.

“Mike has been a key member of the Bergquist family for years and we are inspired by his passion and commitment to assist others impacted by ALS,” said Lauren Clark, President & CEO. “The propane industry is a tight-knit space, so I’m confident that many of his colleagues and peers across the country will step up to support him in this effort.”
